Holi celebration from recipes to rituals

Theme: Holi special (Festival of color) 

Class Description: Holi, the name itself splashes colors and makes the heart bloom with hope, love and life. In the Indian subcontinent this festival  marks the onset of Spring and is seen as an invocation for a good harvest festival. The festival is celebrated with people splashing colors on each other with no distinction of caste, religion etc and praying that our internal evils be destroyed. 

You are invited to join in this hands-on cooking class with Bollywood fun Holi music to learn to cook and enjoy a few staple Holi dishes from Northern Indian state Bihar. You also learn the customs and traditions associated with this festival. 

Holi Menu

  • Dahi vada (Lentil fried dumplings, soaked in yogurt, served with tamarind chutney and garnished with roasted spices) 

  • Kachori (Spiced lentil stuffed pastry)  

  • Pua (Sweet fried crispy pancake  infused with saffron & cardamom) 

  • Thandai (Traditional Milk drink made with mixture of nuts & spices) 

  • Appetizer (store bought Pre -made Indian appetizer) & Digestive tea.

Price: $95 per person + Tax

Holi color: Based on the comfort of the participants, we will encourage participants to apply herbal colors on each other in the spirit of this festival. 

Instructor: Rachna Tewari, Owner of Swasthyam Wellness,  is an Ayurvedic Practitioner who teaches cooking classes while also discussing the science of Ayurvedic cooking and an Ayurvedic perspective on ingredients used.
